O Promitheas Kai To Doro Tis Fotias (Ο Προμηθέας και το δώρο της Φωτιάς, “Prometheus and the gift of fire”) is the ninth single from Rove Monteux, accompanying his six albums, in his solo career into Classical, Cinematic, Drama and Neoclassical music.
In Greek mythology, when Zeus overthrew his father, the Titan Kronos, and became the leader of all the Gods of Olympus, he turned against humans. He wanted to destroy them all to make a fresh start. But a brilliant Titan who until then was an ally of Zeus, Prometheus, thwarted his plans.
Prometheus, whose name means "Provident," was the cleverest of all the Titans.
Some say that Prometheus created man out of clay and water, and offered people the gift of thought and taught them many arts, skills and sciences, such as astronomy to study the orbits of the stars and to use this knowledge in their sea voyages.
So people slowly started to thrive. But the prosperity of men angered Zeus, and his anger flared more when one day Prometheus tricked him into giving more food to mankind. It was a day of sacrifice for the gods, and so Prometheus slaughtered an ox. But he wanted to give the most to people to eat. So, he divided it into two portions and wrapped them so that their contents could not be distinguished. The large portion was all fat and bones, while the small one had all the meat. Prometheus gave the small portion to the Olympian gods, but Zeus immediately complained.
"Zeus, most glorious of the gods, choose whatever portion you will," said the awake Prometheus, smiling.
Of course, Zeus chose the big portion. When he discovered the fraud of Prometheus, to punish him he took back the fire from the people. "Let them eat their meat raw," he cried, and fled.
But Prometheus proved smarter. He went in the evening to Olympus, to the abode of the gods, and stole the fire from the chariot of The Sun. In order not to be seen with fire, Prometheus hid it in the stalk of fennel, a plant that thrives everywhere in Greece. So he carried the fire safely and gave it to the people again.
In fact, Prometheus showed people how to use fire to warm themselves and cook their food. When Zeus saw the fires burning again on Earth, he became furious and decided to avenge Prometheus and the people for stealing the fire.
The Vengeance Of Zeus was terrible indeed. He set out first to avenge humanity. He ordered the God of fire, Hephaestus, who was a blacksmith, to make out of Clay a young woman, as beautiful as an immortal goddess, but who would bring misery to the race of men. All the gods endowed the woman with rich gifts. Athens gave her life, Apollo gave her musical talent and Hermes taught her trickery. The young woman had all the characteristics of man. That's why they called it Pandora.
Then Zeus gave Pandora to his slow-witted brother Prometheus, Epimetheus, whose name means "he who thinks after". Prometheus had warned his brother not to accept any gift from Zeus, but Epimetheus was so enchanted by Pandora's beauty that he accepted her for his wife.
Epimetheus, who had helped his brother Prometheus to distribute many gifts to the people, had in his house a sealed box in which were all the evils and illnesses, old age and sins of the people. All these ugly things the two Titan brothers kept away from humans to protect them. But the Rascal Pandora was aflame with curiosity to know what was in that box. Until one day he couldn't take it anymore, he sneaked out and took the box. He unsealed it, and then all the evils that torment men and make them unhappy poured out from within.
